High Durability in Manufacturing Applications
The Spectrum ASA Kevlar fiber is a technical composite material based on a combination of ASA copolymer and aramid fibers. The creation of composite materials by combining materials aims to impart new properties that were previously unattainable with the separate components. As the base of the composite, we used ASA copolymer, which is known for its high weather resistance, and combined it with aramid fibers, which are among the strongest synthetic fibers.
Aramid fibers, primarily known as Kevlar, are used to manufacture highly durable items such as bulletproof vests, helmets, and speaker membranes.
Aramid fibers do not break under brittle stress (like glass and carbon fibers), but instead undergo shear fracture and tearing, resulting in their high resistance to damage.Aramid itself is a material poorly resistant to UV radiation, its encapsulation and special protection in ASA polymer, which is highly resistant to this factor, ensures the long lifespan of the fibers and the entire composite.
Kevlar fibers exhibit significantly lower wear on the print nozzle compared to carbon and glass fibers, which is not negligible in terms of printing process costs. The use of fiber structure reduces material shrinkage during printing, allowing for the production of large-scale models. With our new Spectrum ASA filament, Kevlar is now making its way into 3D printing technology.
Parts printed from Spectrum ASA Kevlar can be used in applications requiring resistance to sunlight and high impact strength (e.g. bumpers, protection, etc.). The content of aramid fibers results in a rougher exterior surface of the prints, making them more matte and thus more aesthetically pleasing than classic ASA.
